Getting loaded up late at Heinz in San Diego I started rolling up I15 towards Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Parked at the Fontana yard around 23:00 local time.
Woke up next morning to beautiful weather, blue skies and pretty good temperature, but I had to leave it all behind. Weather was good all day even up in northern California, had a thirty minute break just south of Benton. (Picture).
After my break it started getting dark, but drove another four hours and parked here at TA in Mill City.
Started out from Yuma AZ this morning with very little sleep due to Netflix watching and smartphone mania last night. Made my way almost to San Diego then I ran into some really slick roads, lots of melted snow that turned to ice and wet pavement that was frozen. It was the pass about 50 miles east of San Diego that was bad. Traffic was stuck and four wheelers where all over the place, but mostly in the ditch. Trucks were going slow and alot were stuck in the right lane so we passed them in the left. Traffic was probably moving around 10 mph at the most and it took forever. I was allready about 30 minute late for my delivere, but ended up with an additional hour.
Finaly down from the pass I ran into traffic, didnt really matter what route I picked from here cause it was traffic on all of them anyway. When I reached the customer things went pretty fast, checked in with receiving and waited a few minutes until they called me and gave me a door.
Unloading was a little slower, but its okay. Guess I was done after three hours or so, then I went down to the Pilot and parked.
It started with rain and ended with chains. This load with pop from Sacramento to Spokane Valley suddenly turned into a real winter story.
Later on that evening when I was rolling out of Sacramento fully loaded with pop, it got dark and the rain was pouring down. I started getting tired and it git hard to see, also had a little over two hours left on my clock so I decided to pull over at the Pilot in Weed CA.
I was pretty sure it was gonna be full, but lo and behold, there were a few spots left and all I need is one. Finally parked and settled down I was ready for movies and dinner and enjoyed my night there. Little did I know of what was waiting next day...
Just about 90 miles south of San Fransisco is Salinas when I'm at now. Got here on Tuesday night with my produce load from Yuma AZ. Dropped the trailer and any back about a mile to the pilot and started a reset.
Wednesday was very windy and lots of rain, but it was quite cozy inside the truck with all that bad weather outside. Spent most of the day chilling with Netflix watching season 2 of Blacklist. Yes I'm a Netflix junkie.
Today the weather is much better, the sun is actually shining thru and I'm waiting for a load, empty trailers are available down at Fresh Express soon as I get the preplan.
Just 10 miles away from my previous load I'll be picking up my next load going to Wal-Mart in Hermiston, OR.
This is a nice and friendly place with a scale to weigh your axles before your leave. And it's free!
Good thing they had cause my trailer was too heavy in the front, even with the tandem slid all the way forward I was unable to get legal. Picture is taken with the tandem in hole #9 before adjustment.
99% of the time the holes between 8-12 is the ones to use with reefer trailers here at Knight.
On my way back west now to Fontana California with a load I picked up in Amarillo from another driver. We just switched trailers, he didn't wanna go west and I didn't wanna go east just yet.
Now having my break at my watering hole here at the Flying J in Kingman AZ. I've got about 5 more hours to drive today. No stress, it's still early.
It's been a while since I updated my blog now. I've been home a couple of times since last update. My last trip was more than 2700 miles from PA to WA which lead to a pretty nice paycheck. Now I'm in northern CA on my way with ice cream to Laredo TX. Been struggling with my 70 hour limit the last few days, but don't wanna do a reset yet. I will make my delivery on time too. Had to park early today cause I feel like shit. Hopefully a little better tomorrow.
Now at Target in Rialto CA with Ice Cream from Henderson NV. Once I'm done here I'll be heading down to San Diego for a load to Americold in Ontario OR.
